Day One - Monday, July 19th

All Events at The Smith Opera House unless othersise noted

9:00 am - 10:15 am: Those We’ve Lost

Wine styles can be lost due to cultural changes in taste, climate change making a style impossible in a region that long called it home, or from loss of the people – or death of a person – who made that wine. What do these wines communicate about the people and culture they hail from, and what does it mean when they are lost or fade away?

10:30 am - 11:45 am: A Seat At The Table

Who has the wine and Riesling world excluded from its narrative and history, from vineyards to production to sales and restaurants? What have the consequences been for those people and communities, and what did the wine world lose for not having those voices?

12:00 pm: Lunch on the Seneca Lakefront

2:00 pm - 3:15 pm: Riesling, Wet and Dry, The Present Climate

Is Riesling a cool climate grape that is doomed in a warming world? Or is it’s supposed cool climate ‘home’ long since warmed beyond that climate type and we are just catching up? Join esteemed Riesling critic Stuart Pigott and a panel of Riesling Winemakers from cool and hot climates as they discuss what is cool, what isn’t cool anymore, and how these changes matter for Riesling.

3:30 pm - 4:45 pm: 2021 A Sustainability Odyssey

What does it mean to be sustainable in the post-Covid era? Moving beyond green-washing and towards actual sustainability in the vineyard. And moving beyond the vineyard to encompass those who create, transport, and sell the wine.

5:00 pm: Email, Networking, or Beer Break

Feel free to refresh yourself or catch up on the outside world prior to dinner. Or meet us at Lake Drum Brewing for a well-earned Riesling diversion.

6:00 pm - 11:00 pm: The Riesling Crawl

In the exploratory spirit of FLXcursion, restaurant throughout downtown Geneva will be open this evening featuring special sets of wines and complimentary small bites to pair. With each location sponsored and themed by a wine region around the world, feel free to wander at your own pace between them all and explore Riesling around the world.

Professional Conference

Day Two - Tuesday, July 20th

All Events at The Smith Opera House unless othersise noted

9:00 am -10:15 am: Terroir and the Age of the Internet

What does the future of understanding wine look like? Is face to face sales work in the industry or with consumers taking a back seat? What opportunities are opened up when the barriers to wine education and service are lowered by social media and other online tools, and which barriers still remain?

10:30 am - 11:45 am: Riesling and Beyond, The New Frontiers

Where is the cutting edge of where Riesling is being grown? What are the new grapes being planted in regions that have been Riesling strongholds in the past? And what are the companion grapes that often are overlooked when we discuss what grows alongside Riesling?

12:00 pm: Lunch on the Seneca Lakefront

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Keynote Address

Presented By: Andrea Immer Robinson Master Sommelier

6:00 pm - 10:00 pm Parting Dinner at Kindred Fare

As we prepare to say farewell to another FLXcursion and new friends, Kindred Fare will be hosting one of their legendary dinners.  Come hang out for a relaxed evening of delicious food and fantastic wines – although we wouldn’t blame anyone for trying one of Kindred Fare’s cocktails.
